Marleen Valstar

Marleen has been working as a project architect at HEYLIGERS architects since 2006 and became partner in 2015. Together with Willem Heyligers (founding partner) and Lonneke Leijnse, they form the management team of the two studios in Utrecht and Amsterdam.

HEYLIGERS architects work in both architecture and interior architecture. It is precisely this combination that appeals to Marleen. Especially the projects in which these two disciplines come together.

Marleen was trained as an interior designer at the Art Academy of Maastricht and persued an engineering degree during her work at HEYLIGERS architects.

Her experience lies in renovations, mostly of monuments, but also transformations from offices to homes, an old stable to office space, retail, hotels and private houses. Renovations of outdated office buildings, adding value by bringing new life into them, and thereby attracting new tenants. But also creating innovative office concepts should not be missing from this list.

Marleen: “Successful projects are made together. Listening to the client and so understand how they work and function optimal, forms the basis of our designs for workspaces. The challenge for our team is combining this with their creativity and so creating designs which last, inspire and suit the client.”
