The “House of Games” (HoG) is more than a building, it’s a visionary ecosystem designed to elevate Berlin as a global hub for the digital games industry. Spearheaded by a coalition of industry leaders, cultural institutions, and public stakeholders, the project aims to centralize and amplify the creative, economic, and cultural power of gaming in Germany.
A vision rooted in Berlin’s DNA
Berlin has long been a magnet for digital creativity, with a thriving games scene that blends high-tech innovation, media design, and community engagement. The House of Games builds on this foundation, offering a physical and symbolic home for the industry. It is envisioned as a “lighthouse” project—an internationally visible landmark that brings together developers, publishers, service providers, researchers, and cultural actors under one roof
Key Features & Impact
One-Stop-Shop for the Industry: The HoG will host central institutions, flexible coworking spaces, and cultural venues, enabling seamless collaboration and visibility .
Ecosystem Synergy: By co-locating diverse players—from indie studios to major publishers like Ubisoft—the project fosters innovation, cost-efficiency, and sustainability.
Public-Private Partnership: The initiative is supported by the Berlin Senate and included in the 2023 coalition agreement, with operational leadership involving the German computer gaming association (game), Ubisoft, WISTA, and Medianet.
The HoG will span approximately 10.000 square meters across multiple floors, with state-of-the-art facilities including:
- State-of-the-art, certified facilities
- Production spaces dedicated to the gaming industry and related sectors
- Modular office layouts and shared spaces,
- Event zones, social spaces and public-facing areas.
A Shared Responsibility
A dedicated supervisory board will oversee tenant curation, strategic direction, and operational execution. Tenants will be expected to actively contribute to the success of the HoG, ensuring it remains a dynamic and participatory space
Intellectual and cultural capital
The HoG is not just about business—it’s a cultural and educational platform. It will host:
- Training and upskilling programs in partnership with universities and vocational institutions
- Public exhibitions and events to engage the broader community
- Platforms for exchange, collaboration, and creative development
The project has already reached key milestones:
- The site has been officially announced, with support from Berlin’s mayor and cultural leadership
- A branding partnership with Jung von Matt NERD is underway, with a new visual identity and website in development
